Drink and Dine for San Francisco Youth!

Compassion and assistance are greatly needed to fight youth homelessness and to create healthy youth development. In 2013, a total of 1,902 youth were tallied as homeless in San Francisco and many more remained uncounted and hidden. (SF Board of Supervisors’ Budget Committee hearing on Youth Homelessness, 5/18/14.)

Donations that we raise make a significant difference as the funds are transferred to supporting organizations, such as Huckleberry Youth Programs, La Casa de las Madres and Larkin Street Youth Services which deliver much-needed services to local youth! These agencies provide food, emergency shelter that leads to longer term housing, counseling, education, health services, job skills and economic empowerment.

San Francisco is one of the richest cities in the world. Please help us to ensure that every young person here has the opportunity to make a successful transition to adulthood.

Our History

2003-2012: Partnered with local sponsors and 75 of San Francisco’s leading restaurants to conduct an autumn 6 -8 week “Dine Out and Donate” campaign. Diners were invited to make small, on-the-spot donations when presented with their check.

Over $500,000 was raised and donated equally to Huckleberry Youth Programs, La Casa de las Madres and Larkin Street Youth Services.

STREETSMART4kids (originally STREETSMARTUSA) replicated the STREETSMART program that was introduced in London by William Sieghart, Chairman of Forward Publishing Co., and Mary Lou Sturridge, Director of the Groucho Club. Their aim was to transform the good cheer exhibited by holiday diners during the months of November and December into positive action by asking restaurant patrons to add a voluntary £ 1.00 donation to their bill to support charities for the homeless.

In 2013, STREETSMART raised
£ 610,000 for its beneficiary charities. (www.streetsmart.org.uk)
